Experience customs and handicrafts

Built in 1614 by the Augustinian canons and monastery dean Degenhart Neuchinger, the district of Berchtesgaden acquired the renaissance castle, which had previously been privately owned, in 1963. Five years later the local history museum was established there, showing nowadays an impressive folkloristic collection of historical and current examples of the Berchtesgaden Waar. In 13 rooms with a small audiovisual show, visitors can immerse themselves in the everyday life of the people here in the Berchtesgaden basin and marvel at artistically painted chip boxes, wooden toys and fine and coarse carvings. Noble leg carvings, a house chapel, a marionette room and many other exhibits complete the folkloristic exhibition.
