From early starts to fondue chinoise

The wintertainment programme at the ski resort Lech Zürs offers variety for every taste.

As part of Austria’s largest skiing area – and one of the world’s five largest – Lech Zürs offers unique skiing that knows no limits. Winter sports aficionados can enjoy perfectly groomed slopes and exciting highlights. “Unforgettable moments in the ski resort Lech Zürs!”: That’s the motto under which Lech Zürs’ wintertainment programme combines a large range of opportunities – from athletic to culinary to cultural. Skiers can take a peek behind the scenes of the lift company Skilifte Lech, meet the region’s skiing pioneers, and be the first to rush down the freshly groomed slopes in the morning.

Sunrise over the ski resort

Early risers get to be the first to explore Langer Zug or Zürser Täli at dawn. They take in the stunning sunrise on the viewing platform of Rüfikopf or at the Muggenrat summit station and then head down the pristine slope all the way into the valley – a unique experience. The slope Langer Zug awaits skiers with a gradient of 80 percent, making it one of the world’s steepest. Those who head down towards Zürser Täli will be rewarded with excellent views and anecdotes by a specialist from the local lift company. Both slopes require solid parallel turning skills on red slopes and ski routes.

Meeting the legends

As of the 2016/17 winter season, since Flexenbahn and Trittkopfbahn I and II as well as Albonabahn II were built, all of the Arlberg’s ski resorts have been connected. As a result, the Run of Fame became possible: an 85-kilometre circular ski route with a total of 18,000 altitude metres which is dedicated to the Arlberg’s pioneers of skiing. Using the Ski Arlberg App every winter sports fan can track their progress on the run of fame throughout the winter season, they can collect checkpoints, and pick up a badge at the Hall of Fame. There visitors can expect an interactive exhibit as well as fascinating insight into the history of legendary skiing pioneers and stars from sports and film on the Arlberg who raced down the snow-covered slopes in the past (entry free of charge).

NEW: Free guided tours at the Hall of Fame every Monday at 2pm

Knowing risks

More and more winter sports fans exchange secured slopes for untouched terrain – Lech has more than 200 kilometres of powder slopes which are, however, only recommendable to experts with the right know-how. Under the motto “Check your Risk” the three training modules “Preparation”, “Risk-Reduction”, and “What to do in case of an accident” convey important content in a practice-oriented fashion throughout the winter season.

Meeting point: Sunday 3pm at Schlegelkopfbahn (free participation)

The White Ring

The Arlberg’s most legendary cirular ski route has been connecting Lech with Zürs, Zug, and Oberlech for 60 years and it is made up of 6 slopes and seven lift. Skiers cover about 22 kilometres and 5,500 altitude metres – an athletic half-day challenge. And, of course, there is an annual race on “The White Ring”, too. The next one is scheduled for January 22, 2020 (participation fee: 99 Euros). Under the motto “track and win” all athletes can track themselves on The White Ring using the Ski Arlberg App and they will automatically participate in a raffle. Each week belts by Luis Trenker with a characteristic White-Ring design are the prizes. Important: a normal ride on the circular route has nothing to do with the race, it’s all about the indulgence.

Other highlights of the wintertainment programme include a fondue night on Rüfikopf, a whiskey tasting at Schlegelkopf bar as well as a 1.2-kilometre tobogganing track provided by Bergbahn Lech. For more information see:
